In honor of my good husband's birthday, I thought I would highlight some of the events that make John Denis Shane, Sr. the man he is.

John was born to Philip & Dorthey Shane on 9 August 1952 in Gooding, Idaho.

He was the 4th of 7 children born into the Shane household. He was a cute little buddy.

At age 4, he already knew the meaning of work. He must be going to help out with dinner preparation. Mark & Kathrine are looking on.

He was raised in this very humble home in Hayward, California.

In his elementary years, John attended John Muir School.

As a young boy, John loved to build model cars and build paper airplanes.

Oh...and then there was always Casper Hotdogs! How many times have we heard the mention of this favorite place !?

John was blessed with good friends. Terry LaPray & Pat Bryson (both in front) were his favorite growing up buddies. He is still in close contact with them.

John loved to run and was good at it. As a freshman he won the league & set the league record in the 2 mile. He attended Sunset High.

He was a handsome graduate of the class of 1970. He was awarded "cutest smile" in the senior class.

At BYU, John played on the rugby team.

He was a happy-go-lucky guy when we met in 1975.

Soon he realized I was the girl of his dreams.

We were married & sealed in the Oakland Temple in California on August 20, 1976.

John has dear friends in all parts of the world. Here he is with Dan Bradford.

Family means everything to John. Here we are in sub zero temperatures in Alaska.

John loves learning & science. He is a mycologist and a microscopist.

These 4 grand babies are the center of his universe. He would like nothing better than to retire and spend all of his time with them. They would go on field trips, fishing expeditions, geology finds, grandpa sports camps., etc. Each would own their own microscope !

John loves to spend time with me. He is happy about the "empty nest". But, at the same time, he cherishes time spent with all of those he loves.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY HUSBAND OF MINE !

So cute!
We loved seeing the pictures!
What a cute little buddy he was! I loved the one of he and his sisters in front of the big barrel of veggies from their garden!
And really, the horrendous Christmas card picture needs to be deep-sixed. Forever. Let's go ahead and never put that on the world wide web again. Seriously.
Happy, happy birthday Dad! We love you so much! Let's make that dream of living by your grand kids a reality already!
