as june was drawing to an end, stephanie started having major nesting instincts. she felt like it was time for me to come west. with her due date (july 6th) just a little more than 2 weeks away, i flew from fort lauderdale to phoenix. i hadn't seen her since january, when she was still in her first trimester. now she was 9 months pregnant and had a nice, round baby bump!
with her ever present mc donald's diet coke in hand, she is a force to be reckoned with when she hits walmart. she's all about price comparisons, coupons, and making her dollar stretch!
brad & i tag along, but really, we try to stay out of her way!
after i had been there for two weeks or so, natalie & the mancubs showed up as a surprise! natalie, brave natalie, drove from rock springs to phoenix! that was a 15 hour drive with bradoc, age 5, teaguey, age 3 and baby dylan, age 18 months. lu and i were thrilled. the third member of "team shane" had arrived!!! NOW, we could have a baby!
phoenix is ridiculously hot in the summer! we were experiencing 118 degree days! the pool was the best place to be! baby dylan was so relaxed he actually fell asleep in the float!
baby dylan has a serious case of hip disease! (when he's not on natalie's hip, he's crying!)
he would cry and even try to climb in the shower to be with her!!!

on 7-7-11, it was lu's lucky day! at 4:45 a.m. her water broke. we headed to the hospital. brad, natalie & i were her coaches. these two look so happy & calm! :) :) it must have been before things got tough. and they did.
lu was mighty to behold! she worked so hard, and at 11:01 p.m., ruby came into the world!!!

lu's midwife was awesome! her name was lisa. we were all quite fond of her. she was kind, loving and had a sense of humor. all of those traits made labor & delivery so much nicer.
baby dylan really didn't care for auntie lu or jamma. b u t...he and uncle brad were best of friends!
bradoc brought ruby one of his dinosaurs to play with. he wanted to share with his new little cousin!
then grandpa showed up! the best surprise ever!!!
lu was thrilled to have her daddy. and her daddy was thrilled with this precious little bundle!
uh~oh! what is this??? baby dylan wasn't quite sure what to think. he really didn't like it when his mommy would hold baby ruby!
after our visit with lu & company, natalie & i drove with the mancubs up to utah. we spent the night at the cowboy motel somewhere close to lake powell. "wow" is all i can say!
we arrived at john & kelley's in lehi, utah after the better part of two days of driving. baby dylan took to chaya! we were thrilled!!!
this was a common sight~all the kids lined up on bar stools hoping to eat. it was endless!
uncle john has a special knack of bathing boys. he put the mancubs and danny all in the tub together. then he systematically scrubbed them down, one by one!
then it was time to wrestle!i hope you have enjoyed a small glimpse of my trip west.
i was able to see 3 of my four kids and all six grand kids!
i would call that a success!
